This art piece is good, very beginner (not to say my art is any better than this) but I just wanted to say that your hair is AMAZING it just needs more highlighting and I think it could go in there for being from some of the BEST equine artists on dA.
There is no lighting in this piece between the background and the horse. If I were you I would have put a clipping mask on the horse and painted him white and put the opacity down or something. make him seem like he is in there.
Since there doesnt seem to be a large source of light in the background, maybe paint some white on the background and put the white layer on overlay and fix to your liking.
Although I do see a little bit of a shadow, there needs to be more. this will improve grounding a large amount. Granted, I do realize it is hard to place a shadow anywhere when there is not a defined source of light.
Your grounding also sticks out to me like a sore thumb. but it is there. I would recommend using a smaller fuzzy brush or using a 2 or 3 px hard brush and zoom in a lot to get to the fine details. Maybe paint in the extra snow instead of simply just erasing the hooves a little.
The eye is FANTASTIC! Though, maybe a little more gloss to it would be better
Now, what I am going to say next is just a choice in style but I just feel that I am going to say it. Maybe blur your background a bit to bring focus to the horse. Me being ADD my eyes are jumbled by the horse and all the trees surrounding it just popping out at me. (I usually forget to do this unless it is a background that messes with my eyes)
(Ignore the rating... lol)
